Returning empty handed to Ranger headquarters, he is informed that the Comancheros, a ruthless outlaw band, are supplying guns and liquor to the Comanches and inciting them to attack. One of the gun smugglers has been arrested and Cutter takes his place.

Driving a wagon load of guns to a town close to the Comancheros hide out, Cutter is be-friended by one of the Comancheros, Tully Crow (Lee Marvin). Having a drink with Crow in a saloon Cutter sees Regret playing cards. Crow and Cutter join him (Regret does not reveal Cutters true identity). Drunk and loosing heavily Crow is shot by Cutter. Regret is then arrested and taken to a near-by ranch, where a small group of Rangers wait. Cutter is informed that the Comanches will attack at any moment. Regret assists the Rangers in fighting off the Indians and is later made a Texas Ranger.

With the wagon load of guns Cutter and his new partner Regret set off for the Comancheros hide out. When they get there Regret is surprised to see Pilar (the lady from the riverboat) is the daughter of the Indian Chief. Regret expresses his love and she offers to help the Rangers, even against her farther.

Escaping, with the guns, from the hide out. The Comanches and Comancheros follow them. Not far behind, a band of Rangers, that have been following the Indians, attack. Cutter, Regret and Pilar assist the Rangers in defeating the enemy. Cutter wishes Pilar and Regret luck as they leave together.
